SEO Optimization for Stack Magazines

Project Overview

  • Client: Stack Magazines
  • Duration: 2023
  • Role: UX Researcher, SEO Specialist, Content Strategist
  • Tools Used: Google Analytics, Google Search Console, Screaming Frog, Ahrefs, Figma, Squarespace, Shopify, Looker Studio

Challenge

Stack Magazines curates independent print magazines from around the world, delivering a surprise selection to subscribers each month. While they had a strong niche following and editorial voice, their website wasn’t optimized for organic search. Key landing pages weren’t ranking for relevant terms, and discoverability was limited outside their existing audience.

Objectives

  • Audit and improve on-page SEO to drive organic traffic
  • Identify and prioritize content opportunities aligned with user search intent
  • Recommend site structure changes to better support evergreen and editorial content

Approach

SEO Audit & Keyword Mapping
I performed a technical and content-focused SEO audit using tools like Google Search Console and Ahrefs.

This included:
  • Reviewing crawl errors, duplicate content, and indexation issues
  • Mapping high-intent keywords across key product, category, and editorial pages
  • Analyzing competitor performance and identifying missed content opportunities

On-Page Optimization Plan
Created a prioritized plan for optimizing:
  • Metadata (titles, descriptions, and H1 structure)
  • Image alt text and page load performance
  • Content hierarchy across blog and landing pages
This plan emphasized balancing SEO best practices with Stack’s editorial tone.

Results

  • Identified over 30 high-value keyword opportunities tied to existing content
  • Delivered a scalable optimization framework that preserved Stack’s brand voice
  • Positioned the site to grow organic visibility and reduce reliance on paid social
